چکیده

This paper reports the effect of superficial liquid mass flow rate and bed void fraction on the pressure drop, dynamic liquid hold-up, mean liquid residence time and biofilm wetting, in a co-current down-flow xylene-removing trickle bed air biofilter (TBAB). The gas–liquid pressure drop increased with liquid mass flow rate and it also increased with diminishing bed void fraction, the effect being larger at bed void fraction of 0.41. Dynamic liquid hold-up was higher with increasing liquid mass flow rate, and showed a maximum when the bed void fraction was 0.69. The same pattern was observed for the mean liquid residence time and the wetting efficiency. Liquid residence time distribution curves indicate stagnant regions, channeling, and recirculation within the TBAB, whose effects were larger at a bed void fraction of 0.41. A m 3

Modeling and Simulation of Trickle Bed Air Biofilter for Removal of VOCs

In this study, a mathematical model is proposed which incorporates mass transfer process and biofilm reactions in trickle bed air biofilter (TBAB). The model consists of a set of mass balance equations for isopropyl alcohol (IPA), acetone (ACE) and oxygen within the bulk gas phase and within the biofilm. These set of ordinary differential equations are converted into non-dimensionalised form an...

CFD Simulation of Porosity and Particle Diameter Influence on Wall-to-Bed Heat Transfer in Trickle Bed Reactors

Wall-to-bed (or wall-to-fluid) heat transfer issues in trickle bed reactors (TBR) has an important impact on operation and efficiency in this category of reactors. In this study, the hydrodynamic and thermal behavior of trickle bed reactors was simulated by means of computational fluid dynamics (CFD) technique. The multiphase behavior of trickle bed reactor was studied by the implementation of ...

حذف زیستی سولفید هیدروژنتوسط بیوفیلتری با بستر فوم پلی‌اورتان و فیبر نخل

Background and purpose:The emission of hydrogen sulfide (a malodorous and toxic pollutant) into the atmosphere is considered a public health concern due to its potential hazardous effects on human health. Therefore, the removal of hydrogen sulfide from polluted air streams is of paramount importance. This study aimed to evaluate the role of a polyurethane foam/palm fiber-based biofilter in the ...

Analysis of Foaming Flow Instabilities for Dynamic Liquid Saturation in Trickle Bed Reactor

The effects of different parameters on the hydrodynamics of trickle bed reactors were discussed for Newtonian and non-Newtonian foaming systems. The varying parameters are varying liquid velocities, gas flow velocities and surface tension. The range for gas velocity is particularly large, thanks to the use of dense gas to simulate very high pressure conditions. This data bank has been used to c...

Styrene Biofiltration in a Trickle-Bed Reactor

The biological treatment of styrene waste gas in a trickle–bed filter (TBF) was investigated. The bioreactor consisted of a two-part glass cylinder (ID 150 mm) filled with 25 mm polypropylene Pall rings serving as packing material. The bed height was 1m. Although the laboratory temperature was maintained at 22 °C, the water temperature in the trickle–bed filter was slightly lower (about 18 °C)....
